PRODUCT REVIEW

By the shoe aficionados at Georgetown Running Company – Chevy Chase

The Asics Gel-Kayano has been a mainstay in the premium support category for a full two decades. That’s a long time when it comes to running shoes, and Asics has several models that are in their mid-to-late teens. Along with the Nike Pegasus, the Kayano has become a household name in running and that legacy continues with the Kayano 20.

This year, the Kayano continues to provide runners with a great mix of support and cushioning. It provides maximum cushioning and moderate stability for over-pronators.

Its weight has dropped down into the 11 oz. range for men and sub-10 oz. for women.

The platform carries over from the 19 to the 20, so runners who currently wear the 19 should expect to find the same overall feel with this new model.

KEY UPDATES

What do we think are the biggest changes this round?

Gender Specific Cushioning: The Women’s version is a little softer this time.

Plus 3 Support System: Ladies get a Women’s-specific fit, adding 3 mm to the men’s 10 mm (approximate) heel-to-toe drop.

FluidFit: It’s the kind of like the stretchiness that’s been on the forefoot all along. Now it’s across the entire upper. The multi-directional stretch mesh provides a glove-like fit.
