Prepare for those extra candy calories with these Halloween-themed runs.

Q50 Halloween Full Moon Trail Runs

Run deep into the Louisiana woods at night with this 3­- or 6­-mile trail race through Fontainebleau State Park. Urban legend has it that the ruins of a sugar plantation in what is now the park are haunted, with ghostly sightings and eerie energy. This team race doesn’t require you to wear costumes (although it’s encouraged), but it does have a long list of other must­haves, including a headlamp, whistle, and insect repellant.

Provo Halloween Half Marathon

Join 2,500 runners in a race for the best costume. The contest is held before the race, so be sure to arrive early and wear your most creative get­up to vie for the coveted trophy. Runners in this race take their costumes almost as seriously as their training. And as the run’s motto suggests, it really is the most fun you can have in Provo without being arrested.

Run For Your Lives 5K

Don’t just run for a PR. Run from zombies. The blood­thirsty creatures will force you to run faster as they chase you through the course and other obstacles including a blood pit, smokehouse and maze. Or if you’d rather do the chasing, you can sign up to be a zombie runner. Registration includes a t­shirt and entrance to the post­race apocalypse party, where you can meet your zombie enemies face­to­face with a beer in hand. There are other zombie runs across the country and throughout the year, so be sure to check out the closest one to you.

The Devil’s Chase 6.66-Miler

This devious race features 2,000 pitchfork­clad runners through the streets of downtown Salem, Mass. There’s a cash prize for the fastest male and female runners, a costume contest for the best devil of all and the lucky runner who successfully bids on bib No. 666 will also be awarded a special prize. And after the race, join in on the party at the zombie dance.

Spooktacular Half Marathon, 10K and 5K

The weather in San Diego is far from scary, but at this race you’ll just have to make up for it with your spookiest costume. Start the morning by warming up to the “Thriller” dance and a entering yourself in the costume contest. There are also separate races for kids, which might just have you screaming with delight if you’re trying to get a PR.
