BRC/Adidas athletes Wendy Thomas and Sean Brown both took home personal best times at Sunday’s Twin Cities Marathon.
Thomas, from Windsor, trains with Colorado Springs’ elite training group the American Distance Project and has a marathon PR of 2:34 and finished 12th at the 2012 Olympic Trials. Twin Cities had no sure favorite on the women’s side this year, and Thomas took the lead and held it through mile 17. Battling extreme gastrointestinal issues and even blacking out during the final two miles of the race, Thomas still pulled off a 6th place finish in 2:36.00. While she did attain the Olympic Trials standard, she still hopes for more and will back in action and looking to go sub-2:30 at Cal International Marathon in December.
Sean Brown of Colorado Springs, who currently is continuing his education in Physical Therapy, notched a personal best time in the marathon of 2:18.21, a mere 20 seconds off of the men’s Olympic Qualifying standard. Brown took 15th overall for the men.
