It was a good day for BRC/adidas at the USA Cross Country Championships. Colorado runners had a homefield advantage this year, with the Championships being featured at Boulder’s Flatiron’s Golf Course. Although this was not a World Championship qualifying year, there was still prize money to be divvied up between the top 10 finishers, and given that the race will be held at the same venue in 2015, it also acted as a good rehersal for those seeking a berth a World’s next year.
The BRC/adidas Master’s men were first up and took home top honors in winning first place amongst the team division. They were bouyed by Simon Gutierrez’s 4th place finish over the 8k distance, Gutierrez also won overall for the 45-49 age group division. Cody Hill was the team’s second scorer in 18th, followed by Kevin Konczak and CJ Hitz in 22nd and 24th respectively, and Mark Misch capped off the score with his 37th, Misch was followed by Seef LeRoux in 67th.
The women turned in 3 top-10 finishes in the 8k to earn the team title as well. Mattie Suver led the way with her 3rd place finish behind victor Amy Van Alstine of Flagstaff Elite and New Balance’s Jenny Simpson. Just behind Suver was Ali Williams and Rochelle Kanuho in 5th and 6th place. Shannon Payne and Rachel Gioscia-Ryan were 14th and 16th respectively. Steph Bylander took 32nd while Sarah Young was 41st.
In the men’s open field, Sean Brown came off of marathon training to take 35th, with Brandon Johnson placing 40th and Mack McLain making a jump from indoor track to cross country to take 42nd.
