Thanksgiving is right around the corner, but not so close that you don’t have time to gear up for a Thanksgiving Day race. Whether you’re looking to run or walk, there are plenty of fantastic options of varying distances that are both local and out of town, but here are a few Colorado favorites…
11/10: Not 2 Early 4 Turkey 5k: On the flat, fast course that surrounds the University Village Center, this Saturday morning, pre-Thanksgiving race will be a fun one in its inaugural year. You’re bound to clock a quick time and this could easily act as a tune-up for your Thankgiving Day race two weeks later. Included is a 1k fun run or walk option. https://www.showmyevent.com/events/viewEventDetails.aspx?EventID=2270
11/23: Turkey Trot Predict 5k: This Memorial Park race has a unique twist where runners shoot to predict their finishing time. No watches allowed! The top-6 runners closest to their anticipated time all win a turkey. But don’t worry, if you totally botch your time, and better yet you botch it worse than anyone else, you still win….a game hen. http://www.pprrun.org/events/TurkeyTrot/
11/23: Panicking Poultry 5 Miler: Held at the Boulder Reserviour, this challenging 5 miler always draws a great crowd. While it may be a trek for C-Springers, who doesn’t enjoy a trip to Boulder? http://www.runcolo.com/colorado-race-calendar/calendar-details.php?raceid=4537.
11/28: Briargate YMCA Turkey Trot: A perennial favorite among Springs locals, this YMCA-sponsored 5k winds through the streets of Briargate. Depending upon weather, the race has seen up to 3,000 runners. Expect a change in course this year and, rumor has it, a flatter one than in years past. Always fantastic prizes and goodie bags to follow, and turkeys to the winners. https://www.ppymca.org/programs/turkey-trot
11/28: Fort Collins Thanksgiving Day Run: This one is a favorite, particularly among the highly competitive! This 4-miler meanders through scenic downtown Fort Collins and, with its hefty prize purse offered up to the winners, always sees some fast times! But whether you’re looking for a top-10 finish or not, it’s worth making the drive for this fast, fun race. Stick around for a while afterward and check out all of what “Foco” has to offer! http://www.runcolo.com/colorado-race-calendar/calendar-details.php?raceid=4544
11/28: Gobble Wobble 5k: Held in Clement Park and professionally timed, this is an excellent option for anyone heading up to the Denver area. Prizes awarded to the top overall finishers as well as the top overall kids under 12! http://www.runcolo.com/colorado-race-calendar/calendar-details.php?raceid=4520
