Today’s Sunday trail group met up at Matthews/Winters Park to run a quick 5 miles on some slick, icy terrain. Originally we had planned to do a longer run over Dakota Ridge, but we decided to keep it short due to the variable terrain we were likely to encounter. Winter trail running is often a different beast, because it can force you to slow down, take it easy and enjoy the scenery. Above all else, it prompts you to be flexible with your plans.
As runners, we are naturally inclined to push ourselves outside of our comfort zones. Yet, in snowy and icy conditions, we are forced to reevaluate our plans and adjust accordingly.
What I really enjoyed about today’s run is that it was a social run. We had a chance to talk and get to know others as we stopped and walked through the icy spots.
