It’s that time of year again, when turkey, pumpkin pie, and 5Ks collide! In this post I will be highlighting three Turkey Trot 5Ks going on in South Florida on Turkey Day. Whichever you choose, you are guaranteed to have a great time earning some extra slices of pie.
The Baptist Health South Florida Turkey Trot
The Baptist Health South Florida Turkey Trot held at Tropical Park on Thursday November 28th at 7:30 AM has both a 5K and 10K. This race offers a great course with an exciting finish around the Tropical Park Track. After the race, Publix provides slices of pumpkin pie. Registration includes a tech Tee and access to a great post-race party. This race clocks fast times every year for men and women, so if you are looking to PR in either distance this is a great race! This year the organizers have partnered with Camillus House, a charity benefiting homeless men and women in South Florida. Be sure to bring a non-perishable food donation and spread the love this Thanksgiving.
Jungle Island Turkey Trot 5K
A newcomer to the Miami Turkey Trot scene is the inaugural Jungle Island Turkey Trot 5K. This race is also held on Thanksgiving morning, Thursday November 28th. This great race offers a finisher’s medal, a technical Tee, and entry to Jungle Island with registration. Family and friends also receive discounted entry to Jungle Island (only $15!). The 5K starts at 8 AM, so you will have plenty of time to check out the park before you go home to prep the turkey!
3rd Annual Fort Lauderdale Turkey Trot and Turkey Paddle
A unique alternative to these two Miami Turkey Trots is the 3rd Annual Fort Lauderdale Turkey Trot and Turkey Paddle! In this exciting race you can choose to do a 5K run or a 2 Mile Paddleboard race (for those adventurous athletes looking for a Turkey Day race with a splash). The race is held on Thursday November 28th and starts at 7:30 AM.
There’s no better way to start Turkey Day than with a 5K! Florida Running Company will be out racing, so we hope to see you at one of these excellent events too!
