Featured Runner: Gabriel Velasquez

GabeGeorgetown Running Company is no stranger to success.  It’s not just our own excellence we like to celebrate, but yours as well.  We’d like to introduce you to Mr. Gabriel Velasquez, whom you’ll find as a fixture on our Wednesday night group runs.  Gabe is a walking testament to hard work and will power, and is the embodiement of what you can accomplish with a little blood, sweat and tears.  Here’s Gabe’s story in his own words.

“I was living in San Diego last year and was suffering from several health issues.  I was 245 lbs and was at risk for adult onset diabetes and had high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and chronic pain.  I went to a local park and realized I could barely walk a toe mile trail without feeling like I was going to die.  That was the beginning of my weight loss journey, I started working with a coach and before I knew it I was doing 10k distances and started working towards a half marathon.  My coach and I decided that a full marathon was a realistic milestone and in less than a year I have lost 90 pounds and have regained control of my health and life.

I have Boston to look forward to and my coach thinks it is a difficult, but realistic goal for our next year of training.

Thank you guys so much for all the support, coaching, and friendship.  There is a world of difference between going to a store that will sell you merchandise and going to a store where people care about your goals and do their best to help you accomplish them!”

We’re proud to have Gabriel as one of our clan at Georgetown Running Company, where runners always come first.  Gabriel completed his first marathon this past month in Baltimore, and celebrated victory by running the Army Ten Miler just one week later.  You’ll find Gabe at Georgetown Running Company’s group runs on Wednesday nights as he continues his uncompromising quest on to Boston!
