Gary Allen, the race director for the prestigious Mount Desert Island Marathon in Bar Harbor, Maine, is running from the top of Cadillac Mountain in Maine to East Rutherford, NJ to raise money for the Wounded Warriors Project. His destination is the location of the 2014 Superbowl and he hopes to reach the stadium by Superbowl Sunday on 2/2. This effort is being done in order to raise money and awareness for the Wounded Warriors Project.
He plans on running through downtown Andover tomorrow but his ETA is unknown at this point. His route will take him from North Andover, down Elm Street, crossing Main Street then continuing on Central Street. You can track Gary’s progress here.
Throughout the course of the trip, Gary will be averaging almost 50 miles a day but this hardly new territory for the seasoned runner. Having completed 91 marathons in his lifetime, 21 of which were the Boston Marathon, Gary has run over 100,000 lifetime miles. Last year, Gary ran from the top of Cadillac Mountain to Washington, DC which was an astounding 705.2 miles.
So keep your eyes peeled for Gary as he runs through Andover tomorrow and be sure to utter words of encouragement as he runs by. You can read more about the event here and help contribute to the WWP here. Go Gary Go!
