Meet our neighbor, Hazel Boyd!
As many of you know, I was deeply affected by the events of the Boston Marathon 2013 while working the finish line for PowerBar. I am currently working diligently through that healing process, and I thought to myself, “What greater way to move forward from the events of that day than to cross the finish line on my own two feet?” I couldn’t think of a more natural and cathartic way to aid in my recovery than doing just that.
Knowing that I would more than likely not be able to compete and qualify in a marathon by the time registration opened up for 2014, I set out to find a cause worthy of the effort and level of commitment that I am willing to give to work through my recovery and make this goal a reality. And as if by fate, Boston Children’s Hospital (my new employer), has a Miles for Miracles team that accepted me, and I am so excited to be part of this glorious team with such a wonderful cause.
I’m fundraising for this team because I believe so strongly in all the good things Boston Children’s Hospital does for kids. Its patient care programs are unusually sensitive to what sick and injured children and their families really need. More specifically, I have the honor and privilege of running this race on behalf of my patient partner Zachary.
This little 3 year old is a fireball! He is filled with energy and excitement, and his curiosity is infectious. Meeting him, you would never know that he is under our care here at Boston Children’s, but knowing his story makes this journey more awe-inspiring for me, and I vow that I will run harder and faster for him and me.
Please help me make a difference. Not only will your assistance help me, but it will also go towards all of the great work that we do for the children, like Zachary, in our community and around the world. There is no donation too small, and every one helps us along this journey of hope, healing, closure, and discovery. Your consideration is greatly appreciated.
