Selecting the perfect gift for a runner is always a trying task – we’re such picky little buggers! So, over the next week, we will be featuring items on our staff’s wish lists to give you some better ideas of what some of the local runners are really jonesin’ for this holiday season. In doing so, we hope to make gift selection for your runner less stressful and bit more personal.
Nike Aeroloft 800 women’s running vest $180
A popular item based on style points alone, this vest is actually an incredible piece of technology (hence the hefty price tag!). Despite its 800-fill goose-down insulation, it is still one of the lightest weight vests on the market. The wind and water resistant material is perforated to help avoid overheating, but (if needed) the vest can be taken off mid-run and carried effortlessly by folding up into it’s own pocket complete with a built-in hand strap for easy carrying. When the vest is not packed away, the small pocket can be used to stow personal belongings, and features a reflective safety strip around the perimeter for enhanced visibility. Warm enough to be worn over a simple long sleeve tech tee, or light enough to be layered beneath a more intense wind and water resistant outer layer – this vest is well worth the investment.
Sugoi midzero tights $70
A lot of runners lament that fleece lined tights are just too expensive and there aren’t enough extreme cold weather days to justify the purchase – enter: the midzero tights. Sugoi’s versatile fleeced thermal tight made with full-motion stretch and a soft lightly brushed inner perfectly suits a wide variety of conditions and uses. The tight weave of the fabric on the outside, paired with the wicking micro-fleece on the inside allows for maximum warmth and moisture wicking, without adding any bulk. These babies were made for winter long runs and speedwork – featuring a flat-locked seaming structure to avoid chaffing, inside drawstring and storage pocket for small personal items, and Sugoi’s signature ankle grip to hold the tights in place.
Saucony Triumph 11s $140
Despite the high-cushion category and super juicy signature PowerGrid midsole, these guys weigh-in at a measly 9.3oz. A recent update from the Triumph 10s, the 11s have been reengineered to provide an even smoother heel to toe transition than its predecessors, and come in a bunch of exciting new colorways. As part of Saucony’s effort to maintain a nod towards minimalism and natural running form, the Triumph 11s have maintained an 8mm heel-to-toe offset. Outdoor runners love the IBR+™ outsole material – which is 33% lighter than standard blown rubber and provides 3 times more cushioning.
