RACE RECAP: 9th Annual Lindsey’s Run!

SinglePOClogo2011_000Early Sunday morning, I headed over to SUNY Purchase to participate in the 9th Annual Lindsey’s 5K Run and Walk to benefit the PEACE OUTside Campus organization, which is dedicated to keep students safe when they live off-campus.

The weather was absolutely gorgeous as we gathered on the lawn on campus. The line moved very quickly to pick up my badge, there was also a free T-shirt to everyone who pre-registered. Nearby, there was a tent with coffee and pastries, as well as a silent auction with some very awesome prizes, like trips to exotic locations!

At 9:15, all the runners and walkers gathered for a beautiful rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner and a speech about PEACE OUTside Campus. At 9:30, we were off and running! The route kept us on the same road that circled the entire campus. We started off with a small hill which was followed by a small downhill. The course was not as flat as I had hoped, but it was still very easy to run and navigate. Like most races, it was a bit crowded at the beginning but I had plenty of room to run later on. When we finished the run, there was an awesome breakfast buffet in the tent, with scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, pastries and bagels. Yum!

My outfit of choice was the new Brooks Essential Half-Zip (which kept me nice and warm, but not too warm!), Moving Comfort’s Fiona sports bra, Nike Dri-Fit capris, and Nike Stucture’s. All of these are available in-store or on the website.

As a new runner, my pace wasn’t exactly speedy, but I still managed a PR (personal record) at 38:24! Very happy about that! Overall it was an excellent run and I highly recommend signing up next year. A good race for a great cause!
